This on-line database - save7lives.org - contains the names of people in Virginia who have indicated their desire to be organ and tissue donors. When someone dies, and is deemed medically suitable for donation by a federally designated, non-profit organ procurement organization, a transplant coordinator accesses save7lives.org to see if the person is listed as a donor. A person's decision to be a donor on save7lives.org is honored in Virginia. If the person is not listed, then the transplant coordinator from the organ procurement organization offers the family the opportunity for their loved one to donate. (A driver's license with "organ donor" displayed on the front, or a signed donor card also reflects a decision to donate, and that wish will be honored.)

All information submitted will be used only by transplant professionals and will be kept completely confidential. We will not share, sell, or otherwise compromise this information. save7lives.org is supported by a Virginia coalition of organ procurement organizations, eye banks, and transplant centers.

Anyone who has said "yes" to donation at the DMV has already been transferred into save7lives.org. Anyone who signs up to be an organ and tissue donor at the DMV in the future will also have their information transferred to save7lives.org. Once you have signed up at this site, you can print a donor card to carry with you if you wish. If, for any reason, you would like to change your information you can modify or delete your record by logging in to your account here.
